Born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia, Arthur Evans resettled in California in 1975 after completing his bachelors degree in German from a private college in West Virginia.
Primarily a self-taught artist, with occasional instruction from several professional artists, Evan’s works shows his inherent talent and knowledge of the painting techniques of master painters. His focus is on themes of personal interest - still-lifes, landscapes and figures reflect his admiration for the exquisite realism of Fantin-Latour, Vermeer’s wondrous play of light and shadow, and the delicate brush work and fleeting expressions of subjects captured by Degas and Manet. Evans is successful in painting both realism and the softer more representational impressionistic style of the late 19th century French masters. The quality of his work is always outstanding and clearly demonstrates his individual contemporary interpretation.
Evan’s first gallery exhibit was curated by Sue Grim-Langert for Galleria Luna.
